Target audience

Health professionals working on human subjects research.

Educational objectives

Participants should be able to discuss the most current information and relevant approaches to research involving human subjects.

Purpose

To educate clinical research professionals on the basics of clinical research. There are also courses of interest on current and novel research. The lectures in this series will help provide a more effective, efficient and cohesive clinical research environment at the University of Iowa.

Objectives:

  • The Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Subjects Office (HSO) are an integral part of the UI research enterprise. HSO staff, the board and IRB members, and UI researchers and research staff share the responsibility for ensuring that research is conducted in an ethical manner; to protect the rights, safety, and welfare of participants. This lecture will provide guidance for the research community to successfully work WITH the IRB/HSO to:

    • Explore novel research methodologies

    • Inquire about forms and reporting requirements

    • Ask for help with IRB submissions

    • Learn about regulations and policies
