Congrats to 2016 Goldwater Scholar Nicolas McCarty, a third-year biochemistry student working in Dale Abel's lab. Niko primarily studies the role of insulin signaling in regulating the cardiovascular system. He's currently pursing an ICTS Certificate in Clinical and Translational Studies, a program designed for undergraduates who are interested in connecting their research to the translational spectrum. Niko has received over 20 awards and recognitions since 2013.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Barry Goldwater. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers who intend to pursue careers in these fields.
